One trend we are seeing for 2016 is the pleated skirt. Pleats are feminine, interesting to look at, and fun to wear. Pleated skirts come in all lengths and styles, and that makes them appropriate for many occasions. But you may be asking yourself how to wear a one or what to wear with one of these skirts. We are here to help!
First, pleated skirts can be slimming, but it is important to show off the waistline. So no matter what you pair it with, make sure you tuck it in. They should be paired with neat and uncluttered tops such as t-shirts or plain sweaters. But, a shear or sparkly pleated skirt can be dressed up with a blazer or leather jacket.
Second, it is important to wear the best type of pleated skirt for your figure. Stitched down pleas lie flat at the top so they are good for women with a tummy.
Accordion pleats are full through the hips so they help give an hourglass shape. And, they have the least amount of volume so they are appropriate pleated skirts for women with large bottoms. Third, you don’t want to look too prim when wearing pleats, so you should pair your pleated skirt with boots, sandals, or pumps rather than flats. Fourth, if you have hips, then you should choose a one made of a light and flowy fabric so that you don’t add too much volume to that area.
Of course pleats are a big trend in general for this year so don’t limit yourself to skirts. You can find many pleated dresses, jumpsuits, and tops as well as seen in the clip of Stella McCartney’s Spring 2016 runway show above.
