Marled knits are something that doesn’t seem quite right for a spring fashion trend, but you will find them all over the place this year. First, what makes a knit marled? A marled knit is made with a yarn that it made up of two or more colors in one strand. This multicolored yard makes the final garment appear to be multicolored as well. There are many types of garments made of marled knit – even tank tops like the one seen in Wes Gordon’s show above – but some of the most popular that we are seeing these days are short sweaters, ponchos, and marled knit dresses.
The multicolored effect of marled knits gives a garment texture while at the same time lightening it up so that it is appropriate for spring. The textured look is interesting enough to spice up any outfit, but not so crazy that you can’t wear it with almost anything.
You can pair a marled sweater with jeans for a casual look on the weekend, or with a leather pencil skirt for work. And, as you know, fashion works best with juxtapositions of different fabrics and patterns so you should pair a knit poncho with a rich silk shirt for a great look.
Even though the lightweight nature of these knits does make them appropriate for spring, the beauty of knits is that you can keep them in your closet year round. So if you are looking for a versatile garment that will keep you on the cutting edge this spring but will also be something you can wear far into the future in lots of different seasons, then marled knits are for you.
