Over the years we’ve all witnessed the rise of the Kardashian clan, and though hindsight is 20/20, no one would’ve imagined the breakout star would be Kendall. Watching Kendall and Kylie frolic through their Calabasas home as young, slim and slightly awkward preteens hardly foreshadowed what they’ve become today. The more surprising transformation was the evolution of Kendall Jenner, in all honesty, Kylie took the expected route of a Kardashian focusing on being a socialite to expand her network, while Kendall Jenner became a world renowned model who lets her talent speaks for itself.
Kendall has walked in a menagerie of high fashion shows including Givenchy, Chanel, and Balmain to name a few.
Her recent appearance in the Chanel show at Paris fashion week solidified her spot as a supermodel, but it had not always been smooth sailing for Jenner. Kendall admitted to being bummed when she was rejected from a few shows, and in some cases it was her Kardashian name that held her back. Being on the reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s paints a picture that these girls are famous for nothing, they just attend social events and influence popular opinion. Some designers are not moved by the Kardashian name and some are turned completely off by it. However, that is not to say the Kardashian name did not allow Kendall an advantage in some instances, but that it may not be the golden goose everyone assumes it is for her. Atop of true talent, Kendall has a true passion for modeling and enjoys her travels and has created authentic connections with other industry breaking models like GiGi Hadid. Also, I’m not sure it’s fair to penalize Kendall for getting her start from a wealthy family when we praise the likes of Kate Upton and Cara Delevingne, who also came from well connected and established families.
Although she has been turned away due to her affiliation with a reality show, to say that being a Kardashian is a hindrance, is a bit of a reach, I mean they have a major impact on the fashion industry and can make or break sales with an instagram post. Some designers are more inclined to book Kendall due to the attention she will attract and that may not be a nod to Kendall’s talent but strictly her name. Kendall’s name on your site can generate more click in a 5 minute period than any other name and that’s a direct result of her Kardashian ties. Though she does not have the last name, Jenner, is immediately associated with Kardashian by default and as a result, many media outlets and companies continue to cover and partner with her.
I’m not saying she doesn’t deserve her stardom but she is 5’10”, very thin, with big brown eyes, and pouty lips. The prototype for every model trying to break into the fashion world, what sets her so far apart? Her name, and the name her sisters cultivated and scaled like a business. The only reason I believe Kendall is still being booked and is in high demand is because she is damn good, and on top of being good she is a Kardashian. How could designers not book her? We all know nothing the Kardashians do is accidental when it comes to their careers and Kris is meticulous when it comes to managing her daughters but no one expected Kendall to be as superb as she is. For her shocking the world and actually being good at something I must say she is lucky but more than definitely she is undeniably a supermodel.
